Introduction

Adverbs jsou výrazy, které modifikují ostatní slovní druhy. Poskytují nám větší škálu informací.

Ta, která dodávají informaci ohledně frekvence/četnosti nějaké události, se nazývají Adverbs of Frequency.

Form

Adverbs of Frequency používáme pro vyjádření četnosti/frekvence určité činnosti. Zde vidíme některé z nich ve vzestupném pořadí:

  • Indefinite frequency: now and then, seldom, occasionally, frequently, regularly, constantly
  • Definite frequency: daily, weekly, monthly, periodically, yearly

Pro vyjádření konkrétnější informace ohledně četnosti lze použít i následující příslovce: Daily, weekly, monthly, periodically, yearly.

Example

  • Adverbs of indefinite frequency
    • Now and then we go to the country.
    • I seldom go to the beach.
    • He has a flat in London now, but he still comes home occasionally.
    • I frequently have headaches.
    • She exercises regularly.
    • They constantly feel bad.
  • Adverbs of definite frequency
    • You go shopping daily.
    • Martin has weekly visits from his mother.
    • We get social welfare payment monthly.
    • He periodically complains about his ex-wife.
    • I pay for the ambulance service yearly.

Use

Adverbs of Frequency lze také použít jako příslovce času, abychom popsali jak často se něco odehrává. Příslovce obvykle stojí za pomocnými slovesy “to be” či “to have” (“I’m rarely at home”) a před dalšími slovesy (I rarely go to the dentist):

  1. Never (not at any time);
  2. Rarely (not often);
  3. Now and then (from time to time);
  4. Seldom (on only a few occasions);
  5. Sometimes (on some occasions but not always or often);
  6. Occasionally (sometimes but not often);
  7. Often (many times);
  8. Usually (at most times);
  9. Frequently (often);
  10. Regularly (often);
  11. Constantly (all the time or often);
  12. Always (at all times).

Summary

Adverbs jsou nezbytné výrazy, které modifikují ostatní slovní druhy. V angličtině existují Adverbs of Frequency, které poskytují dodatečnou informaci ohledně frekvence dané situace.

Hlavními příslovci četnosti jsou: Never, rarely, now and then, seldom, sometimes, occasionally, often, usually, frequently, regularly, constantly a always.

Například:
— „I never go to the gym.“ = The subject (I) at no time goes to the gym.
— „I sometimes go to the gym.“ = The subject (I) goes to the gym on some occasions.
— „I frequently go to the gym.“ = The subject (I) often goes to the gym.

NOTE: Adverbs vždy stojí za pomocným slovesem (to be, nebo to have), ale před jakýmkoliv jiným slovesem.
