Prepositions of Time

Introduction

Prepositions jsou krátká slova, která se vždy vztahují k jinému členu ve větě. Jsou nezbytné, jelikož nám poskytují dodatečné informace o větě.

Následující Prepositions of Time umisťují události, osoby a předměty v čase: At, on, in.

EXTRA: Prepositions = Předložky; Prepositions of Time = Časové Předložky.

Form

Prepositions of Time nikdy nestojí samy o sobě, vždy působí v kombinaci s dalším členem věty a tím tvoří tzv. prepositional phrases: at, on, in, by.

Summary

Prepositions jsou krátká slova, která se vždy vztahují k jinému členu ve větě. Jsou nezbytné, jelikož nám poskytují dodatečné informace o větě a umisťují událost v určitém časovém období.

Události umisťujeme v časovém kontextu pomocí Prepositions of Time:

  • At: Přesné časové údaje (the moment, sunrise, noon, night, midnight, hours), sváteční období (Christmas*, Easter, etc.), víkend*.
  • On: Dny v týdnu, data, konkrétní části dne (e.g. „on sunday morning“).
  • In: Měsíce, roky, století, roční období … (months, years, seasons, centuries, the morning, the afternoon, the evening).

*v americké angličtině občas používají on místo at.

Například:
— „I always go to my grandparents‘ house at Christmas.“ = Použili jsme at, jelikož se jedná o specifické sváteční období.
— „I always go to my grandparents‘ house on 25th of December.“ = Použili jsme on, jelikož odkazujeme na datum.
— „I always go to my grandparents‘ house in December.“ = Použili jsme at, jelikož odkazujeme na měsíc.
