Introduction
Ci sono due tipi di domande: le Wh-Questions, e le Yes/No Questions.
Le Wh-Questions iniziano sempre con i pronomi interrogativi in Wh- (when, where, why, which, what, whose, who, whom e how), che mostrano quale tipo di informazione vogliamo. Queste domande vengono anche dette Open Questions, perché le risposte possibili sono infinite.
Possiamo anche usarle per porre domande riguardo al passato.

Form
Per porre domande riguardo al passato, è sufficiente coniugare il verbo al passato.
- With an auxiliary verb:
Wh- question word + auxiliary verb (past form) + subject + verb +…? - Without an auxiliary verb:
What/Who + verb (past form) + …?
Which/Whose + noun + verb (past form) + …? - With a modal verb:
Wh- question word + modal verb (past form) + subject + verb + …?
Wh- question word + auxiliary verb (past form) + subject + modal verb + verb + …?

- Where did you travel last year?
- Why did you buy a new car?
- What did you do yesterday?
- Senza un verbo ausiliare
- What broke the PC?
- Who called the police?
- Whose phone rang?
- Con un verbo modale
- How should he tell her he is a prince?

Use
Possiamo usare i pronomi interrogativi in Wh- per formare domande al passato:
- Con un verbo ausiliare;
- Senza un verbo ausiliare;
- Con un verbo modale.

Come già menzionato, in inglese tendiamo ad usare queste domande in wh-. Queste domande iniziano sempre con uno dei pronomi interrogativi in Wh- (when, where, why, which, what, whose, who, whom e how), che mostrano quale tipo di informazione si vuole ottenere.
Queste domande possono essere formate con un verbo ausiliare, senza verbo ausiliare, e con un verbo modale. Possiamo anche usare i pronomi interrogativi con Wh- per formare domande al passato con questi stessi verbi. Si veda la sezione “Form” per vedere come formiamo queste frasi.
Per esempio:
— “Where did you sleep last night?” = Chiede il luogo in cui si compie l’azione.
— “When will you arrive?” = Chiede il tempo in cui si compie l’azione.
