Introduction
Past Simple і Present Perfect – часи,які дещо різняться за формою і значенням.
Present Perfect вживається,щоб розповісти про завершені події, які відбулися в минулому і пов’язані з теперішнім і все ще мають вплив на нього.
Past Simple вживається,щоб розповісти про ситуації,які відбулися і завершилися в минулому.
Form
Affirmative forms:
- Present perfect: Subject + have/has + past participle + …
- Past simple: Subject + Verb (Past tense) + …
Negative forms:
- Present perfect: Subject + have/has + not + past participle + …
- Past simple: Subject + did + not + verb + …
Interrogative forms:
- Present perfect: Have/Has + subject + past participle + …?
- Past simple: Did + subject + verb + …?
Example
Present perfect
- I have lived in Chicago for 10 years. I still live in Chicago.
- She hasn’t played the piano in 3 years (the last time was 3 years ago).
- Have they lived together for a year (they are still together)?
Past simple
- I lived in Chicago for 10 years, now I live in San Diego.
- She didn’t play the piano for 3 years, but she started playing again this week.
- Did they live together for a year (they are not together anymore)?
Use
Ми вживаємо Present Perfect, щоб виразити коротко-/довготривалі незавершені дії чи події, минулі ситуації з результатом в теперішньому, з вираженим “незавершеним” часом (this month, today, this year, etc.).
Ми вживаємо Past Simple, щоб виразити коротко-/довготривалі завершені дії і події, повторювальні події і звички,які відбулися в минулому, з вираженим “завершеним” часом (two weeks ago, last year, in 2010, yesterday, etc.).

Ми вживаємо Present Perfect, щоб розповісти про завершені дії,які відбулися в минулому і пов’язані з теперішнім і все ще мають вплив на нього. Present Perfect в Стверджувальній формі має таку структуру:
Subject + have/has + past participle (e.g. I have been to the cinema four times this month.) (“has” для третьої особи однини).
Ми вживаємо Past Simple, щоб розповісти про ситуації,які відбувалися в минулому і зараз завершилися. Past Simple в Стверджувальній формі має таку структуру:
Subject + Verb (Past form) (e.g. I went to the cinema four times last month.).
Наприклад:
— “I have been to the cinema four times this month.” = Ми вживаємо Present Perfect, щоб виразити ідею,що дія почалася в період часу,який ще не завершився.
— “I went to the cinema four times last month.” = Ми вживаємо Past Simple, щоб виразити ідею,що дія почалася і завершилася в минулому періоді часу і більше не триває.
