Future Simple Interrogative

Introduction

The future is the tense used to express future events. We use the future simple structure to introduce predictions, beliefs or intentions about the future.

When expressed in its interrogative form, the verb is used to ask something about the subject.

Form

The future simple, in its interrogative form, has this structure:
Will + subject + verb + …?

Will Subject Verb Question
Mark
Will I/you/he/she/it work ?
Will we/you/they work ?

Example

  • Will you bring your student card?
  • Will she wear her dress?
  • Will you work tonight?
  • Will they leave a tip?
  • What will I say to him?
  • What will you wear tonight?
  • Where will we sit?
  • When will we finish these cheques?

Use

We use future simple, in its interrogative form, to ask for information about the future:

  • making yes/no questions;
  • making wh-questions.

Summary

We use the future simple, in the interrogative form, to ask for predictions, beliefs or intentions about the future.

When we use future simple in its interrogative form, we start with will followed by the subject and the verb in its base form (the sentence ends with a question mark).

For example:
— “Will you work on important projects next month?” = The sentence is in the future simple interrogative, so we start with will and we use the base form of the verb to go (go).
♦ “Do you work on important projects?” = The sentence is in the present simple interrogative, so we start with do and we use the base form of the verb to work (work).

Let’s revise this content within the {Form} section. Take a look at the {Example} section that shows its use within a context.
