Introduction
There is/are sú slovné spojenia používané vo vetách, ktoré buď potvrdzujú, popierajú alebo overujú, že niečo existuje.
Form
There is/are umiestňujú podmet po slovese a zvyčajne sa vyskytujú v troch tvaroch:
Kladný tvar
Podstatné mená v jednotnom čísle: There is + singular noun/uncountable noun + …
Podstatné mená v množnom čísle: There are + plural noun + …
Záporný tvar
Podstatné mená v jednotnom čísle: There is + not + singular noun/uncountable noun + …
Podstatné mená v množnom čísle: There are + not + plural noun + …
Skrátené tvary v zápornom tvaru sú: there isn’t/aren’t (rovnaké skrátené tvary ako u to be).
Častejšími konštrukciami v negatívnom tvaru sú:
