Introduction
Un verbo modal [modal verb] es un tipo de verbo auxiliar (ayudante) que no tiene significado por sí solo sino que modifica el verbo principal, cambia su significado y da más detalles sobre la acción.
May es un tipo de verbo modal auxiliar utilizado para expresar la posibilidad de que algo ocurra y también para pedir o dar permiso.
Form
May siempre tiene la misma forma, incluso para la tercera persona del singular y, normalmente, encontramos esta estructura en sus tres formas.
Afirmativo
Su estructura en la forma afirmativa, es:

Afirmativo

Use
Usamos may en la forma afirmativa cuando:
- Damos o pedimos permiso;
- No estamos seguros de algo;
- Expresamos deseos o esperanzas.
Usamos may en la forma negativa cuando rechazamos el permiso o expresamos incertidumbre.
Usamos may en la forma interrogativa cuando queremos hacer una solicitud respetuosa.
