Introduction
Substantivele [nouns] se referă la o persoană, loc, obiect, eveniment, substanță sau calitate.
Substantivele nenumărabile [Uncountable nouns] sunt substantivele care nu pot fi ușor numărate sau care se referă la o masă [mass] {Vezi Substantivele – Numărabile & Nenumărabile, Nivelul A1}.
Form
Substantivele nenumărabile se referă la obiectele pe care le considerăm a fi în masă, și nu obiecte separate. Există trei tipuri de substantive nenumărabile:
- Numai cu forma de singular: advice, baggage, energy, hair, homework, information, money…
- Numai cu forma de plural: clothes, groceries, news, regards, thanks…
- Nenumărabile când ne referim la un sens general și numărabile când ne referim la un obiect sau semnificație anumită: a type of, a kind of…, materiale și lichide: glass, paper, coffee, water…, sau substantive abstracte: life, time…
Example
Numai substantive singulare nenumărabile
- My baggage is so heavy because of the camera in it!
- Her energy as a salsa dancer is incredible!
- Their money was not enough to buy the painting.
Numai substantive plurale nenumărabile
- Could you get the groceries?
- He told me some news about your journey.
- We send our thanks to the director.
Utilizarea în ambele moduri: nenumărabil și numărabil
- Can I borrow some coffee? / Shall I get a coffee (= a cup of coffee)?
- She has a lot of glass bowls. / Does she want a glass of coke?
- I need more time. / I miss the times of my internship ( = a specific period).

Substantivele nenumărabile deseori se referă la idei abstracte, substanțe, materiale, gaze și lichide.

— „Can I have some coffee?” / „Can I have a coffee?„= Coffee se referă la cafeaua în formă de pudră (singular nenumărabil), și a coffee (cafea) are sensul implicit de a cup of coffee (singular numărabil).
