Main Religions

  • The main religion of the United Kingdom is Christianity,  in 2011 Census 59.5% of people defined it as their religion.
  • It is followed by:
    • Islam – 4.4%
      • Islam is a monotheistic religion whose followers believe that Muhammad is a messenger of God.
    • Hinduism – 1.3 %
      • Hinduism is an Indian religion and way of life practised in the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia.
    • Sikhism – 0.7 %
      • Sikhism is an Indian monotheistic religion that originated in Punjab.
    • Judaism – 0.4 %
      • Judaism is an ethnic religion comprising the collective religious, cultural and legal tradition and civilization of the Jewish people.
    • Buddhism – 0.4 %
      • Buddhism is a nontheistic philosophical and religious system which originated in northern India.
  • Around 25.7% of the population is atheist.
