Introduction
Τα ουσιαστικά [nouns] αναφέρονται σε ένα πρόσωπο, σε ένα μέρος, πράγμα, γεγονός, υλικό ή χαρακτηριστικό.
Τα αμετάβλητα ουσιαστικά [invariant nouns] είναι ουσιαστικά που έχουν την ίδια μορφή και στον ενικό και στον πληθυντικό αριθμό.
Form
Τα πιο κοινά Invariant Plural Nouns είναι: clothes, fireworks, glasses, goggles, jeans, outskirts, scissors, series, thanks, trousers… κτλ.
Example
Ενικός αριθμός των αμετάβλητων ουσιαστικών
- A pair of scissors is on the office desk.
- This advertisement is about a new series.
- Your old pair of goggles is used in the musical.
Πληθυντικός αριθμός των αμετάβλητων ουσιαστικών
- Scissors are dangerous for babies.
- New TV series about famous writers are going to start.
- These goggles cost a fortune!
Use
Τα Invariant Nouns σχηματίζονται με τον ίδιο τρόπο στον ενικό και πληθυντικό αριθμό (εάν έχουν ενικό αριθμό).
Όταν έχει και ενικό και πληθυντικό αριθμό, το άρθρο προσαρμόζεται ανάλογα.
Summary
Τα αμετάβλητα ουσιαστικά [invariant nouns] είναι ουσιαστικά που έχουν την ίδια μορφή και στον ενικό και στον πληθυντικό αριθμό, και χρειάζεται να χρησιμοποιήσουμε το σωστό άρθρο για να τα ξεχωρίσουμε. Δεν ακολουθούν τον γενικό κανόνα σχηματισμού του πληθυντικού αριθμού.
Τα πιο συνηθισμένα είναι: clothes, fireworks, glasses, jeans, scissors, thanks, trousers…
Για παράδειγμα:
— “I bought a pair of jeans.” / “I bought two pairs of jeans.” = Το jeans (τζιν) έχει την ίδια μορφή και στον ενικό και στον πληθυντικό αριθμό.
— “My dad bought new trousers.” / “My dad bought a new trouser.” = Το trousers (παντελόνι) μπορεί να υπάρξει μόνο στον πληθυντικό αριθμό.
