Introduction

H προστακτική [imperative] είναι μία δομή που χρησιμοποιείται για να δώσουμε μια εντολή ή μια διαταγή.

Form

Συνήθως την προστακτική τη χρησιμοποιούμε στο δεύτερο πρόσωπο (ενικού/πληθυντικού). Επίσης, μπορούμε να την βρούμε σε 2 μορφές, κατάφαση και άρνηση:

Affirmative

Η δομή της στην κατάφαση είναι ή εξής:
Verb (infinitive without to) + …

Infinitive Positive Imperative
To eat Eat!
To dance Dance!
To run Run!
To sleep Sleep!
To work Work!

Negative

Η δομή της στην άρνηση είναι ή εξής:
Don’t + verb (infinitive without to) + …

Infinitive Negative Imperative
To eat Don’t eat!
To dance Don’t dance!
To run Don’t run!
To sleep Don’t sleep!
To work Don’t work!

Example

  1. Εντολές
    • Come back to the classroom!
    • Don’t play on the computer!
    • Don’t listen to your classmate!
  2. Οδηγίες
    • Open your book on page 40.
    • Collect your school timetable tomorrow morning.
    • Don’t open that webpage. It has a virus.
  3. Συμβουλές
    • Talk to your maths teacher. He will understand.
    • Don’t study at the party. Go to the library.
    • Don’t send that email. It will only cause further problems.
  4. Σε πινακίδες/ανακοινώσεις
    • Pull.
    • Insert 1 Euro.
    • Do not disturb.
  5. Πρόσκληση
    • See for yourself.
      Have a magazine.
      Don’t be afraid to contact your university professor.

Use

Η imperative χρησιμοποιείται στην affirmative και στη negative forms. Χρησιμοποιούμε affirmative imperatives για να προτρέψουμε κάποιον να κάνει κάτι, ενώ χρησιμοποιούμε negative imperatives για να αποτρέψουμε κάποιον από μια πράξη.

Χρησιμοποιούμε affirmative imperatives για να:

  1. Δώσουμε εντολές,
  2. Δώσουμε οδηγίες,
  3. Δώσουμε συμβουλές,
  4. Πάνω σε σήματα/ σημειώσεις,
  5. Κάνουμε μία πρόσκληση (χρησιμοποιείται μόνο στην affirmative).

Summary

H προστακτική έγκλιση[imperative mood] συνεπάγεται της χρήσης του β’ προσώπου (ενικού και πληθυντικού) και η δομή της έχει δύο μορφές:

  • Κατάφαση (η βασική μορφή του ρήματος): εντολές, συμβουλές ή οδηγίες και προσκλήσεις για να παροτρύνουν ή να αναγκάσουν κάποιον να κάνει κάτι.
  • Άρνηση (το don’t ακολουθούμενο από τη βασική μορφή του ρήματος): εντολές, προτάσεις, συμβουλές ή οδηγίες για να αποτρέψουμε κάποιον να κάνει κάτι.

Για παράδειγμα:
— Κατάφαση: “Buy some food for lunch!”
— Άρνηση: “Don’t buy food for lunch!

ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ: Συνήθως, παραλείπουμε την προσωπική αντωνυμίαsubject pronoun] στην προστακτική.
