Introduction
Глагол to be важен в грамматике. Это вспомогательный, а также неправильный глагол.
Чтобы говорить о ситуациях, которые произошли в прошлом и завершились, используется прошедшее время [past tense] этого глагола.
Form
У глагол to be неправильная [irregular] форма в прошедшем [past] времени.

- I was a good football player.

Use
Глагол to be во времени past simple используется в качестве соединяющего слова между субъектом и дополнением или прилагательным. Он предоставляет больше информации о самом субъекте, про который говорится в прошедшем времени.
Summary
Past simple используется, чтобы описать ситуации, которые произошли в прошлом, и теперь завершились. У глагол to be неправильная форма прошедшего времени.
- Утвердительно: (I) was, (you) were, (he/she/it) was, (we/you/they) were;
- Отрицательно: (I) was not, (you) were not, (he/she/it) was not, (we/you/they) were not;
- Вопросительно: was (I…?), were (you…?), was (he/she/it…?), were(we/you/they…?).
Например:
— Утвердительно: «The sugar was enough for the cake.»
— Отрицательно: «The sugar wasn’t enough for the cake.»
— Вопросительно: «Was the sugar enough for the cake?»
