Introduction

Glagol biti [to be] je nepogrešljiv v slovnici. Je pomožni glagol in eden od nepravilnih glagolov.

Za opisovanje situacij, do katerih je prišlo v preteklosti in so sedaj zaključene, uporabljamo preteklo obliko [past tense] glagola.

Form

Glagol to be je eden izmed glagolov z nepravilnim preteklikom.

Interrogative

  • Was I a good boss?
  • Was he here 2 minutes ago?
  • Were you in Portugal in 2012?

Use

Past simple glagola to be se uporablja kot povezovalna beseda med osebkom in dopolnilom ali pridevnikom. Da nam dodatne informacije o samem osebku v preteklosti.

Summary

Enostavni preteklik [past simple] uporabljamo, ko opisujemo sitacuije, do katerih je prišlo v preteklosti in so sedaj zaključene. Glagol biti [to be] ima nepravilno obliko v pretekliku.

  • Trdilna: (I) was, (you) were, (he/she/it) was, (we/you/they) were;
  • Nikalna: (I) was not, (you) were not, (he/she/it) was not, (we/you/they) were not;
  • Vprašalna: was (I…?), were (you…?), was (he/she/it…?), were (we/you/they…?).

Na primer:
— Trdilna: “The sugar was enough for the cake.”
— Nikalna: “The sugar wasn’t enough for the cake.”
— Vprašalna: “Was the sugar enough for the cake?
