Introduction

Predložne zveze [prepositional phrases] so rezultat kombinacije predlogov in drugih elementov v povedi (samostalnikov, zaimkov, glagolnikov…).

Form

Predložna zveza je sestavljena iz predloga in še enega elementa (samostalnika, zaimka, glagolnika…) v povedi.

Predložne zveze imajo naslednje strukture:

  • Predlog + samostalnik: at, under and on.
  • Predlog + zaimek: with, to and from.
  • Predlog + glagolnik: without, after and before.

Example

Predlog +  samostalnik

  • She works at home.
  • The homeless man sleeps under the bridge.
  • The meeting is at 7, I hope that she arrives on time.

Predlog + zaimek

  • You can come to Paris with me.
  • I am telling this to everybody.
  • I received a letter from him.

Predlog + glagolnik

  • He left the house without listening to his mom.
  • I always go to work after watching television.
  • I usually eat breakfast before going to school.

Use

V povedi se predložna zveza uporablja na različne načine.

  • Kot pridevnik (odgovarja na vprašanje Kateri? [Which one?]);
  • Kot časovni in krajevni prislov (odgovarja na vprašanja, kot so Kako? [How?] Kdaj? [When?] ali Kje? [Where?];
  • Kot samostalniška zveza;
  • Z glagoli, ki imajo dvojni predmet.

— Predlog + samostalnik: “I never arrive on time.”
— Predlog + zaimek: “She took an interesting book with her.”
— Predlog + glagolnik: “Before buying some tomatoes we talked to the seller.”
