Introduction

A prepozíciós szintagmák [prepositional phrases] egy prepozíció és a mondat egyéb elemeinek (főnevek, névmások, gerund…) kombinációjából jönnek létre.

Form

A prepozíciós szintagma egy prepozícióból és a mondat egy másik eleméből (főnév, névmás, gerund…) áll.

A prepozíciós szintagmáknak a következő a szerkezete:

  • Prepozíció + főnév: at, under és on.
  • Prepozíció + névmás: with, to és from.
  • Prepozíció + gerund: without, after és before.

Example

Prepozíció + főnév

  • She works at home.
  • The homeless man sleeps under the bridge.
  • The meeting is at 7, I hope that she arrives on time.

Prepozíció + névmás

  • You can come to Paris with me.
  • I am telling this to everybody.
  • I received a letter from him.

Prepozíció + gerund

  • He left the house without listening to his mom.
  • I always go to work after watching television.
  • I usually eat breakfast before going to school.

Use

Egy mondatban egy prepozíciós szintagmát különböző módokon használhatunk:

  • Melléknévként (A Which one? kérdésre válaszol);
  • Idő-vagy helyhatározóként (olyan kérdésekre válaszol, mint How?, When? vagy Hol?);
  • Nominális mondatként;
  • Dupla tárggyal rendelkező igékkel.

Summary
