Introduction

A there is/are kifejezéseket olyan mondatokban használjuk, amelyek megerősíteni, tagadni vagy ellenőrizni akarják valami létezését.

A there is/are-nak az alanya az ige után van, és általában három formában találjuk meg őket:

Form

Állító

Egyes számú főnevek: There is + singular noun/uncountable noun + …
Többes számú főnevek: There are + plural noun + …

Tagadó

Egyes számú főnevek: There is + not + singular noun/uncountable noun + …
Többes számú főnevek: There are + not + plural noun + …

Tagadó, rövid alakok: there isn’t/aren’t (to be rövid alakjai).

A gyakoribb tagadó alak a there are no / there aren’t vagy athere are not any/there aren’t any.

Kérdő

Egyes számú főnevek: Is there + singular noun/uncountable noun + …?
Többes számú főnevek: Are there + plural noun + …?

Example

  • There is
    • There is a cat in the garden.
    • There is not a cat in the garden.
      There isn’t a cat in the garden.
    • Is there a cat in the garden?
  • There are
    • There are ten cats in the garden.
    • There are not ten cats in the garden.
      There aren’t ten cats in the garden.
    • Are there ten cats in the garden?

Use

A there is/are kifejezéseket olyan mondatokban használjuk, amelyek megerősíteni, tagadni vagy ellenőrizni akarják valami létezését.

Summary

A there is/are-t akkor használjuk, amikor megerősíteni (állító mondat), tagadni (tagadó mondat) vagy ellenőrizni (kérdő mondat) akarjuk valami létezését.

  • Egyes szám: there is
  • Többes szám: there are

Például:
— Állító: “There is a plate on the table.” / “There are plates on the table.”
— Tagadó: “There isn’t a plate on the table.” / “There aren’t plates on the table.”
— Kérdő: “Is there a plate on the table?” / “Are there plates on the table?”

A gyakoribb tagadó alakok a there is no / there are no.

Például:
— “There is no plate on the table.” / “There are no plates on the table.”
