Introduction

Prepozicionālās frāzes [prepositional phrases] ir prievārdu un citu teikuma locekļu (lietvārdu, vietniekvārdu, ģerundiju) kombinācija.

Form

Prepozicionālā frāze sastāv no prievārda un cita teikuma locekļa (lietvārda, vietniekvārda, ģerundija).

Prepozicionālām frāzēm ir trīs formulas:

  • Prievārds + lietvārds: at, under and on.
  • Prievārds + vietniekvārds: with, to and from.
  • Prievārds + ģerundijs: without, after and before.

Example

Prievārds + lietvārds

  • She works at home.
  • The homeless man sleeps under the bridge.
  • The meeting is at 7, I hope that she arrives on time.

Prievārds + vietniekvārds

  • You can come to Paris with me.
  • I am telling this to everybody.
  • I received a letter from him.

Prievārds + ģerundijs

  • He left the house without listening to his mom.
  • I always go to work after watching television.
  • I usually eat breakfast before going to school.

Use

Teikumā prepozicionālo frāzi izmanto dažādos veidos.

  • Kā īpašības vārdu (atbild uz jautājumu Which one?);
  • Kā laika un vietas apstākļu vārdus (atbild uz tādiem jautājumiem kā How? When? vai Where?);
  • Kā lietvārda frāzi;
  • Ar divkāršotiem darbības vārda priekšmetiem.
