Introduction

Kārtas numuri [ordinal numbers] izsaka skaitliskās secības, pozicionēšanas elementus sarakstā.

Form

Kārtas numuri parasti atrodas pirms noteiktā artikula the un pēc darbības vārda. Kārtas numuri veidojas pierakstot -th* skaitļa vārdiem [cardinal numbers] (1 – 10):

  • 1st* – First
  • 2nd* – Second
  • 3rd* – Third
  • 4th – Fourth
  • 5th* – Fifth
  • 6th – Sixth
  • 7th – Seventh
  • 8th* – Eighth
  • 9th* – Ninth
  • 10th – Tenth

*Izņēmums (kā arī twelve = twelfth).

Example

  • It’s my second time in Sweden.
  • He was the first on the list.
  • Our house is the fourth on the left.

Use

Kārtas numurus izmanto, lai parādītu kādas lietas kārtas numuru.

Atšķirībā no skaitļa vārdiem, kurus izmanto, lai parādītu kaut kā skaitu, viņi parāda skaitlisko secību.

♦ “I’ve been to Spain five times.” = Kopējais manu ceļojumu skaits uz Spāniju, tagad es neatrodos ceļojumā (strong>five = skaitļa numurs).

PIEZĪME: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 un 12 ir izņēmumi [exceptions] (jo viņu kārtas numuriem nav veidošanas likuma: first, second, third, fifth, eighth, ninth un twelfth).
