Introduction
Saikļi [conjunctions] ir vārdi, kas darbojas kā savienojumi starp dažādām teikuma daļām vai teikuma locekļiem.
Form
Saikļi ir vārdi, kas savieno vārdus, frāzes un teikuma daļas.
Galvenie saikļi ir: and, but, because un when.
Teikuma formula:
Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2
Ja teikums ir lielāks, tad pirms saikļa jāliek komats (,).
Example
And
- Kevin reads the newspaper and watches television every Friday.
- They live in New York and love its beautiful library.
But
- I like maths lessons but I don’t really like history lessons.
- You can go hiking there but you have to be very careful.
Because
- Anna doesn’t want to take the exam because she did not study.
- We can’t come to the party tonight because we must study.
When
- You get very tired when you don’t sleep.
- We came from school when nobody was home.
Use
Saikļus lieto, lai savienotu vārdus, frāzes, teikuma daļas, kā arī lai parādītu attiecības starp tiem.
Teikuma daļas var savienot dažādos veidos:
- And: savieno divus teikumus (papildinājums);
- But: nosaka stāvokli vai pretstatu (pretstats);
- Because: nosaka iemeslu (iemesls);
- When: nosaka teikuma laiku (laiks).

— “I need to go to the supermarket because we have no bread.” = Because izmanto, lai savienotu divas teikuma daļas: darbību un darbības iemeslu.
— “I need to go to the supermarket when I finish work.” = When izmanto, lai paustu jaunu darbību, kad pirmā darbība jau ir pabeigta.
