Introduction

Veznici [conjunctions] su riječi koje se koriste za povezivanje rečenica i rečeničnih dijelova te za definiranje odnosa među njima.

Form

Veznici su riječi koje povezuju druge riječi, fraze ili rečenične dijelove u rečenici. Glavni veznici su: and, but,
because i when.

Struktura rečenice:
Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Ako je rečenica duža stavlja se zarez (,) prije veznika.

Example

  • And
    • Kevin reads the newspaper and watches television every Friday.
    • They live in New York and love its beautiful library.
  • But
    • I like maths lessons but I don’t really like history lessons.
    • You can go hiking there but you have to be very careful.
  • Because
    • Anna doesn’t want to take the exam because she did not study.
    • We can’t come to the party tonight because we must study.
  • When
    • You get very tired when you don’t sleep.
    • We came from school when nobody was home.

Use

Veznici se koriste za povezivanje riječi, fraza, rečeničnih dijelova i rečenica te za pokazivanje odnosa među njima.

Mogu se kombinirati na različite načine.

  • And: povezuje dvije rečenice (dodavanje);
  • But: izriče stanje ili kontrast;
  • Because: izriče razlog (uzrok);
  • When: izriče vrijeme.

Summary

Veznici [conjunctions] se ponašaju kao poveznica između riječi, fraza i rečeničnih dijelova unutar rečenice.

Glavni veznici su: and, but, because i when.

Struktura rečenice:
Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Naprimjer:
— “I need to go to the supermarket and I also want to visit my grandmother.” = And se koristi za povezivanje dvije rečenice.
— “I need to go to the supermarket but I have to work.” = But se koristi za izricanje radnje koja je u isto vrijeme u opreci s drugom radnjom.
— “I need to go to the supermarket because we have no bread.” = Because se koristi kao poveznica između dva dijela rečenice: radnje i uzroka radnje.
— “I need to go to the supermarket when I finish work.” = When se koristi za izricanje nove radnje nakon one koja je već završila.
