Introduction

Bağlaçlar [conjunctions] isimleri ve tümceleri birbirine bağlayan kelimelerdir.

Form

Bağlaçlar kelimeleri, ifadeleri ve tümceleri birbirine bağlayan bağlayıcılardır.

Temel bağlaçlar: and, but, because ve when.
1. cümle + bağlaç + 2. cümle

Eğer cümle daha uzunsa bağlaçtan önce (,) koymalıyız.

Example

And

  • Kevin reads the newspaper and watches television every Friday.
  • They live in New York and love its beautiful library.

But

  • I like maths lessons but I don’t really like history lessons.
  • You can go hiking there but you have to be very careful.

Because

  • Anna doesn’t want to take the exam because she did not study.
  • We can’t come to the party tonight because we must study.

When

  • You get very tired when you don’t sleep.
  • We came from school when nobody was home.

Use

İki cümleyi aşağıdaki Bağlaçlar yardımı ile farklı şekillerde bağlayabiliriz:

  • And : Ve (iki cümleyi bağlar);
  • But: Ama (zıtlık belirtir);
  • Because: Çünkü (neden belirtir);
  • When: Sırasında (zamandan bahsederken kullanılır).

Örnek:
— “I need to go to the supermarket and I also want to visit my grandmother.” = And burada iki cümleyi birbirini bağlamaktadır.
— “I need to go to the supermarket but I have to work.” = But bağlacı burada süpermarkete gidememe nedenini açıklamaktadır.
— “I need to go to the supermarket because we have no bread.” =  Because bu cümlenin iki kısmını birbirine bağlamak için kullanılmıştır: eylem ve eylemin sonucu.
— “I need to go to the supermarket when I finish work.” = When bağlacı burada alışverişe ne zamandan sonra gidileceğine dair bilgi vermek için kullanılmıştır.
