Introduction

Las conjunciones principales son: and, but, because y when.

La estructura de la oración es:
Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Example

  • And
    • Kevin reads the newspaper and watches television every Friday.
    • They live in New York and love its beautiful library.
  • But
    • I like maths lessons but I don’t really like history lessons.
    • You can go hiking there but you have to be very careful.
  • Because
    • Anna doesn’t want to take the exam because she did not study.
    • We can’t come to the party tonight because we must study.
  • When
    • You get very tired when you don’t sleep.
    • We came from school when nobody was home.

Use

  • And = y (conecta dos oraciones (adicción);
  • But = pero (da una condición o un contraste);
  • Because = porque  (da la razón o causa);

Summary

Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Por ejemplo:
— «I need to go to the supermarket and I also want to visit my grandmother.» = Se usa and para conectar dos oraciones.
— «I need to go to the supermarket but I have to work.»
— «I need to go to the supermarket because we have no bread.»
— «I need to go to the supermarket when I finish work.»
