Introduction

Glagol to be je pomoćni glagol koji je neophodan u gramatici.

Kada se koristi u negativnom obliku, glagol negira činjenicu o subjektu.

Form

Glagol to be je nepravilan glagol te u negativnom obliku ima ovu strukturu:
Subject + to be + not + …

Subject To Be + not Short form*
I am not I’m not
You are not You’re not/You aren’t
He is not He’s not/He isn’t
She is not She’s not/She isn’t
It is not It’s not/It isn’t
We are not We’re not/We aren’t
You are not You’re not/You aren’t
They are not They’re not/They aren’t

*Skraćeni oblik se koristi u razgovornom jeziku ili u neformalnom pisanju.

Example

Glagol to be se koristi s:

  1. Imenicama
    • I am not a student.
    • He is not a lawyer.
    • We are not doctors.
  2.   Pridjevima
    • I am not tall.
    • He is not polite.
    • Many people are not happy.
  3. Prijedložnim frazama (ili dopunama)
    • My book is not on the bed.
    • Harry Potter is not on the TV.
    • The eggs are not in the box.

Glagol to be se u negativnom obliku može koristiti i u skraćenoj verziji:

  • You aren’t 12 years old.
  • This coat isn’t $100.
  • Standard double beds aren’t 5 feet wide.

Use

Glagol to be ima vrlo osnovnu strukturu. Kada dolazi u kombinaciji s drugim vrstama riječi (imenicama, pridjevima, dopunama…) daje nam više detalja o subjektu.

Glagol to be se koristi s:

  1. Imenicama;
  2. Pridjevima;
  3. Prijedložnim frazama (dopunama).

Glagol to be, u svom negativnom obliku, negira određene karakteristike subjekta kao što su: dob, ponašanje, boja, zanimanje, nacionalnost, osobnost, cijena, kvaliteta, veličina, vrijeme…

Summary

Glagol to be je jedan od najčešćih pomoćnih glagola. Često se koristi s imenicama, pridjevima i prijedložnim frazama. U svom negativnom obliku negira nešto o subjektu.

Struktura:
Subject + to be + not + …

Negativan oblik: (I) am not, (you) are not, (he/she/it) is not, (we/you/they) are not.

Naprimjer:
— “I am not tall.” = Am not koristimo za prvo lice jednine.
— “He is not tall.” = Is not koristimo za treće lice jednine.
— “They are not tall.” = Are not koristimo za množinu.

NAPOMENA: Skraćeni oblik koristimo samo u razgovornom jeziku ili u neformalnom pisanju.
