Introduction
Redni brojevi [ordinal numbers] koriste se za izricanje numeričkih sljedova i pozicioniranje elementa na listi.
Form
Redni brojeve uobičajeno dolaze nakon određenog člana the te nakon glagola. Redni brojevi tvore se dodavanjem sufiksa -th* na glavne brojeve (1-10):
- 1st* – First
- 2nd* – Second
- 3rd* – Third
- 4th – Fourth
- 5th* – Fifth
- 6th – Sixth
- 7th – Seventh
- 8th* – Eight
- 9th* – Ninth
- 10th – Tenth
* Iznimke (također twelve = twelfth).
Example
- It’s my second time in Sweden.
- He was the first on the list.
- Our house is the fourth on the left.
Use
Redne brojeve koristimo za pozicioniranje nečega.
Za razliku od glavnih brojeva koji se koriste za izricanje količine, redni brojevi izriču numeričke sljedove.

Redni brojevi [ordinal numbers] razlikuju se od glavnih brojeva [cardinal numbers] jer određuju položaj elemenata u nizu.
Redni brojevi tvore se dodavanjem sufiksa -th na glavne brojeve: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth i tenth.
Naprimjer:
— “It’s my fifth time in Spain.” = Trenutni broj puta kojih sam bio u Španjolskoj (fifth = redni broj).
♦ “I’ve been to Spain five times.” = Ukupani broj puta kojih sam bio u Španjolskoj (five = glavni broj).
NAPOMENA: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 i 12 su iznimke (jer u obliku rednih brojeva ne prate uobičajena pravila tvorbe): first, second, third, fifth, eighth, ninth i twelfth).
