Introduction

Laiku past simple izmanto, lai izteiktu situācijas, notikumus un darbības, kas notika pagātnē.

Nolieguma [negative] formā darbības vārds noliedz kaut ko par priekšmetu.

Form

Kārtniem [regular] un nekārtniem* [irregular] darbības vārdiem laikā past simple ir sekojoša formula:
Subject + did + not + verb + …

  • Did ir pagātnes forma darbības vārdam do.
  • Saīsinātā forma nolieguma formai ir didn’t.
Subject did + not Verb Short Form
I did not work didn’t
You did not work didn’t
He did not work didn’t
She did not work didn’t
It did not work didn’t
We did not work didn’t
You did not work didn’t
They did not work didn’t

*Nekārtniem darbības vārdiem jautājuma un nolieguma formā ir tāda paša, kā kārtniem darbības vārdiem.

Example

  1. I didn’t bake delicious biscuits yesterday.
  2. He didn’t study a lot for the exams.
  3. She didn’t do exercise last Monday.
  4. They didn’t travel around the world last year.

Use

Nolieguma formu laikā past simple izmanto, lai noliegtu:

  1. Īslaicīgas pabeigtas darbības un notikumus, kas nenotika;
  2. Ilglaicīgas pabeigtas situācijas, kas nenotika;
  3. Atkārtotus notikumus un paradumus, kas nenotika pagātnes laikā;
  4. Pagātnes notikumus, kas nenotika, un kopā ar tādiem laika izteicieniem, kā: two weeks ago, last year, in 2010, yesterday…

Summary

Laiku past simple nolieguma [negative] formā izmanto, lai noliegtu situācijas, kas notika pagātnē un jau ir pabeigtas.

Izmantojamā formula:
Subject + did + not + verb + …

Piemēram:
— “They didn’t work on an important project yesterday.” = Izmantojam past simple, lai runātu par pagātnes notikumu, kas nenotika.
