Introduction

Samostalniki [nouns] se nanašajo na osebo, kraj, stvar, dogodek, snov ali pojav.

Množino uporabljamo zato, da pokažemo, da gre za več kot eno osebo, žival, kraj ali stvar.

Nekateri samostalniki so nepravilni, zaradi česar ne sledijo pravilom in njihovo množino tvorimo drugače.

Form

Samostalnikov z nepravilno množino ne tvorimo z dodajanjem -s ali -es. Ne obstaja pravilo, ki bi razložilo, kako se tvori množina teh samostalnikov. Najpogosteje rabljeni samostalniki z nepravilno množino so:

Singular Plural
child children
foot feet
man men
mouse mice
person people
tooth teeth
woman women

Example

  • ChildWe have three children.
  • FootMy feet are sore.
  • ManThere are some men outside the house.
  • MouseI found three mice in the barn.
  • PersonThey are such nice people.
  • ToothHe lost two teeth yesterday.
  • WomanThey are very beautiful women.

Use

Samostalnike z nepravilno množino uporabljamo na isti način kot tiste s pravilno množino; le tvorimo jih na drugačen način.

Summary

Ne obstaja pravilo glede tvorjenja samostalnikov z nepravilno množino; moramo se jih naučiti na pamet.

Najpogosteje se uporabljajo: child ⇒ children, foot ⇒ feet, man ⇒ men, person ⇒ people, woman ⇒ women

Na primer
— “An ox.” ⇒ “Three oxen.” / “Three oxes.”
— “There is only one goose in the street.” ⇒ “There are five geese in the street.”
