Introduction
Adverbs [adverbios] modify a verb, adjective or another adverb in a sentence.
Adverbs of manner [adverbios de modo] give specific information about the way/form/mode in which the action is performed.
Form
Adverbs of manner are formed from the feminine singular adjective by adding the suffix -mente.
The following table shows the formation of adverbs of manner:

Example
- Este programa se entiende estupendamente;
- Cuando hicimos el curso, el profesor nos volvió a explicar las cosas amablemente;
- Al colegio hay que volver suavemente, no de sopetón al final del verano;
- En la escuela de ballet nos enseñaron a bailar estupendamente;
- Para aprobar Medicina hay que tratar a los pacientes amablemente;
- El ingeniero desconectó el reactor nuclear suavemente.
Use
The adverb of manner:
- is used to explain how and/or in what way the action of the verb is performed;
- It answers the question ¿Cómo?
Summary
Adverbs of manner are used to express how the action of the verb is carried out.
In Spanish, they can be created from adjectives by adding the suffix –mente; in adjectives ending in -o we change -o into -a.
For example:
— «El viento es muy constante». → «Hace viento constantemente».
