Introduction
Οι Εμπρόθετες Φράσεις [Prepositional Phrases] είναι αποτέλεσμα του συνδυασμού των προθέσεων με άλλα στοιχεία της πρότασης (ουσιαστικά, αντωνυμίες, γερούνδια…).
Form
Μια prepositional phrase αποτελείται από μια πρόθεση και ένα ακόμα στοιχείο (noun, pronoun, gerund…) της πρότασης.
Οι prepositional phrases έχουν τις εξής δομές:
- Preposition + noun: at, on and under.
- Preposition + pronoun: from, to and with.
- Preposition + gerund: after, before and without.
Example
Πρόθεση + ουσιαστικό
- She works at home.
- The meeting is at 7, I hope that she arrives on time.
- The shop is under the bridge.
Πρόθεση + αντωνυμία
- I received the information from him.
- I am telling this to everybody.
- You can come to the supermarket with me.
Πρόθεση + γερούνδιο
- I always go to work after watching television.
- I usually eat breakfast before going to school.
- He left the house without listening to his mum.
Use
Μία prepositional phrase μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί με διάφορους τρόπους:
- Ως επίθετο,
- Ως επίρρημα (χρόνου και χώρου),
- Ως ονοματική φράση,
- Με ρήματα που παίρνουν δύο αντικείμενα,

Οι Εμπρόθετες Φράσεις [Prepositional Phrases] είναι αποτέλεσμα του συνδυασμού των προθέσεων με άλλα στοιχεία της πρότασης. Τα χρησιμοποιούμε σαν επίθετο, χρονικό ή τοπικό επίρρημα, σαν ονοματικό σύνολο ή με δίπτωτα ρήματα.
Για παράδειγμα:
— Prepositions with nouns: “I never arrive on time.”
— Prepositions with pronouns: “She took an interesting book with her.”
— Prepositions with gerunds: “Before buying some tomatoes we talked to the seller.”
