Introduction
Adverbs [adverbios] modify a verb, adjective or another adverb in a sentence.
Adverbs of quantity or degree [adverbios de cantidad o grado] give specific information about the verb’s intensity or action or the amount of an adjective or other adverb.
The adverb of quantity nada expresses the minimum degree of the denoted quality.
Form
The adverb of quantity nada is placed before the adjective or another adverb.
It can appear in two positions in a sentence:
- after the verb: when it is placed after the verb, this verb has to be negated with the adverb no:
No estoy nada cansado; - in front of the verb: when placed in front of the verb, the verb is not negated:
Nada me fío de lo que él dice.
Example
- Esta chaqueta no me gusta nada cuando salgo a pasear;
- No estás nada cansada así que no te vas a quedar en casa;
- No se fía nada de lo que él dice mientras corre;
- Nada nos gusta el ambiente en las afueras, nosotros somos más de ciudad.
- Nada cansados estáis después de subir y bajar las escaleras.
- Nada se fían de lo que les digo al cruzar la calle.
Use
The adverb of quantity nada is used to express the minimum degree of the quality denoted by the adjective or adverb it modifies.
Summary
— «No es nada de lo que parece» = after the verb;— «Nada es lo que parece» = in front of the verb.
