Introduction
Numbers [números] can be represented by digits or words and generally express quantity (cardinal numbers) or order in a sequence (ordinal numbers).
Cardinal numbers [números cardinales] are used to indicate the quantity of something.
Form
Other cardinal numbers have the following forms:
- 11 – once;
- 12 – doce;
- 13 – trece;
- 14 – catorce;
- 15 – quince;
- 16 – dieciséis;
- 17 – diecisiete;
- 20 – veinte;
- 21 – veintiuno;
- 22 – veintidós;
- 23 – veintitrés;
- 24 – veinticuatro;
- 25 – veinticinco;
- 26 – veintiséis;
- 27 – veintisiete;
- 28 – veintiocho;
- 30 – treinta;
- 31 – treinta y uno;
- 32 – treinta y dos;
- 33 – treinta y tres;
- 40 – cuarenta;
- 41 – cuarenta y uno;
- 50 – cincuenta;
- 60 – sesenta;
- 70 – setenta;
- 80 – ochenta;

NOTE: The numbers 0-15; 30, 30, 100, 1000… have their name.
Numbers 16-19, 21-29 are written together as one word.
Numbers from 31 to 99 are written separated by coordinates: [tens + y + units].
From 100 onwards, they are written separated by juxtaposition (without the connector «y»).
Example
- Tengo trece cromos azules;
- Tu casa mide veinticinco metros;
- Esta estatua tiene quinientos años;
- Llegamos el quince de abril;
- Son las doce y veinte;
- Estamos en el año dos mil diecinueve.
Use
Cardinal numbers are used to indicate:
- numbers of people, animals or things;
- measurements, weights, and distances;
- age;
- dates;
- hours;
- years.

For example:
— «doce perros.» = 12 perros.
— «ciento doce perros.» = 112 perros.
— «seiscientos perros.» = 600 perros.
— «tres mil perros.» = 3000 perros.
