The United Kingdom was and still is one of the major sources of musical creation. It has one of the biggest music industries in the modern world.

  • The Beatles were an English rock band. They were formed in Liverpool in 1960. They are viewed as the most influential band of all time. They are still the best-selling music band of all time. They hold the record for most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart, most number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and most singles sold in the UK.
  • Led Zeppelin was an English rock band. They were formed in London in 1962. They are seen as creators of heavy metal music because of their heavy, guitar-driven sound. It is considered as one of the most successful, innovative, and influential rock groups. They are one of the best-selling music artists in history.
  • David Bowie was an English singer, songwriter and actor. He is seen as one of the most influential musicians of the XX century. He is especially known for his visual presentation. Presentation with the addition of his great music had a big impact on pop culture and music. The Rolling Stones magazine titled him as “The Greatest Rock Star Ever“.
  • Pink Floyd was an English rock band. It was formed in London in 1965. They were recognised for their long compositions, experimentation and philosophical lyrics. They became a leading progressive rock band. They are one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of popular music.
  • Elton John is an English singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer. He has sold more than 300 million records and has more than fifty Top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100. Elton John is one of the most selling single artists of the United Kingdom. He is well known for composing several songs for Disney’s animated film The Lion King. Occasionally he also acted in movies.
  • Queen is a rock band formed in London in 1970. Their song “Bohemian Rhapsody” was number one in the UK for nine weeks and helped popularise music video format. Their songs “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” are commonly used at sporting events. Queen received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music and Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection. In 2018, they were presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Spice Girls is an English all-female pop group created in 1994. Their debut single “Wannabe” released in 1996 was a hit number one in 37 countries. Their debut album Spice became the best-selling album by a female group in history.
