Introduction
How many est utilisé pour s’informer sur la quantité d’un nom dénombrable [countable noun].
How much est utilisé pour s’informer sur la quantité d’un nom indénombrable [uncountable noun].
Form
La question How many? s’utilise toujours avec un nom pluriel :
How many + nom dénombrable pluriel + …?
La question How much? s’utilise toujours avec un nom singulier :
How much + nom indénombrable singulier + …?

- How many holidays have you been on?
- How many students are hard workers?

- How much space is on the computer?
- How much money do I need for the holidays?
- How much time will it take?
Use
On emploie how many? avec un nom dénombrable et how much? avec un indénombrable pour s’informer sur le montant ou la quantité d’un objet.
Summary
On emploie how many…? avec les noms dénombrables [countable nouns] uniquement au pluriel, pour connaître le montant ou la quantité d’une chose.
On emploie how much…? avec les noms indénombrables [uncountable nouns] uniquement au singulier, pour connaître le montant ou la quantité d’une chose.
Par exemple :
— “How many hours do you need to park the car?” = On utilise how many…? car hours est un dénombrable.
— “How much time do you need to park the car?” = On utilise how much…? car time est un indénombrable.
NOTE : Quand on demande how many…?, on utilise toujours le pluriel du nom. On utilise how much…? pour connaître le prix d’une chose.
