Introduction

Be going to est une structure verbale qui sert à parler du futur.

Form

Forme affirmative

La forme affirmative de to be going to est la suivante :
Sujet + to be + going to + verbe + …

Sujet To be Going to Verbe
I am going to work
You are going to work
He is going to work
She is going to work
It is going to work
We are going to work
You are going to work
They are going to work
  • Sa forme contractée affirmative est la même que celle du verbe to be : I’m, you’re, he’s

Forme négative

La forme négative de to be going to est la suivante :
Sujet + to be + not + going to + verbe + …

  • Sa forme contractée négative est la même que celle du verbe to be : I’m not, you’re not/you aren’t, he’s not/he isn’t

Forme interrogative

La forme interrogative de to be going to est la suivante :
To be + sujet + going to + verbe + …?

Am I going to work ?
Are you going to work ?
Is he going to work ?

Is it going to work ?
Are we going to work ?
Are you going to work ?
Are they going to work ?

Example

Forme affirmative

  • I am going to the shop this weekend.
  • When he grows up, he is going to be the boss.
  • We are going to visit your company today.

Forme négative

  • I am not going to the shop this weekend.
  • When he grows up, he is not going to be the boss.
  • We are not going to visit your company today.

Forme interrogative

  • Am I going to the shop this weekend?
  • Is he going to be the boss when he grows up?
  • Are we going to visit your company today?

Use

On utilise be going to quand on parle d’une intention ou de projets futurs qui ont déjà été décidés.

NOTE : On peut utiliser gonna à la place de going to dans un contexte informel.

Summary

Be going to se réfère aux intentions et aux plans futurs qui ont déjà été décidés.

On l’utilise sous différentes formes :

  • Affirmatif : On met d’abord le sujet suivi de to be, puis going to et le verbe.
  • Négatif : On met d’abord le sujet suivi de to be not, puis going to et le verbe.
  • Interrogatif : On met d’abord to be suivi du sujet puis going to et le verbe (la phrase se termine par un point d’interrogation).

Par exemple :
— Affirmatif : « I am going to go to work. »
— Négatif : « I am not going to go to work, I am going to the shop. »
— Interrogatif : « Are you going to go to work? »
