Introduction

Perbandingan dengan kata sifat dan kata keterangan [comparisons with adjectives and adverbs] digunakan untuk membandingkan benda, orang atau aksi, dengan menjelaskan persamaan atau perbedaaan di antaranya.

Perbandingan setingkat [comparative of equality] (as…as clause) digunakan untuk fungsi yang serupa.

Form

Kita dapat menemukan struktur perbandingan setingkat (as…as clause) dalam tiga format.

Format afirmatif:
Subject + verb + as + adjective/adverb + as + object + …
Subject + verb + as + adjective/adverb + noun + as + object + …

Format negatif:
Subject + verb + not + as + adjective/adverb + as + object + …
Subject + verb + not + as + adjective/adverb + noun + as + object + …

Format interogatif:
Verb + subject + as + adjective/adverb + as + object + …?
Verb + subject + as + adjective/adverb + noun + as + object + …?

Example

  1. Benda yang identik
    • This box of biscuits is as big as mine.
    • This restaurant makes food as good as my mum’s.
  2. Benda yang berbeda
    • A kilo of potatoes is not as expensive as a kilo of steaks.
    • Her mountain boots are not as cheap as his backpack.
  3. Menanyakan informasi tentang persamaan/perbedaan
    • Is this box of biscuits as big as mine?
    • Do I have champagne as cold as yours?

Use

Kita menggunakan perbandingan setingkat (as…as clause) untuk:

  1. Membicarakan benda yang identik (format afirmatif);
  2. Membicarakan benda yang berbeda (format negatif);
  3. Menanyakan informasi tentang persamaan/perbedaan dari benda-benda tersebut (bentuk interogatif).

  • Afirmatif:

Contoh:
— Afirmatif: “My doll is as lovely as yours.”
