Introduction

Le preposizioni [prepositions] sono brevi parole che connettono gli elementi della frase. Sono essenziali perché forniscono dettagli aggiuntivi sulla frase.

Le preposizioni di modo [prepositions of method and manner] vengono usate per spiegare in quale modo un qualcosa viene fatto.

Form

Le principali preposizioni di modo sono: by e with.
By + [verb + -ing]/noun
With + noun

Example

By

  • She lost 2 kilograms by being vegetarian.
  • He cooked the Japanese food by traditional methods.

With

  • He asked for the menu with haste.
  • They cut the onion with a knife.

Use

Le preposizioni di modo mostrano come facciamo le cose:

By é usato per indicare l’azione che compiamo per ottenere il risultato;

with é usato per mostrare il nostro modo durante l’azione o gli oggetti che usimo per ottenere risultati.

Le principali preposizioni di modo sono:

  • By: per esprimere azioni ed é seguito da un gerundio (verb + -ing) o un nome.
  • With: con oggetti o strumenti per ottenere qualcosa, ed é solitamente seguito da un nome.

Per sempio:
— “We can handle the situation by talking.” = Usiamo by per indicare l’azione che svolgiamo.
— “We can handle the situation with patience.” = Usiamo with per mostrare il nostro modo durante l’azione.
