Gli Avverbi Rafforzativi e Mitiganti

Introduction
Gli avverbi [Adverbs]sono espressioni che fungono da modificatori di altri elementi della frase e forniscono una vasta gamma di informazioni.
Gli avverbi di quantitá [Adverbs of degree] vengono usati per dare informazioni sull’intensitá di un’azione o in aggettivo {vedi Adverbs of Degree, A1 Level}.
Gli avverbi rafforzativi e mitiganti `[Intensifiers and mitigators] fanno parte degli avverbi di quantitá.
Form
Rafforzativi
I piú comuni sono: highly, absolutely, so, utterly, incredibly, particularly…
Mitiganti
I piú comuni sono: fairly, pretty (informal), rather, slightly…

Example
Rafforzativi
- The climate was highly dry.
- It is absolutely impossible to win at most carnival games.
- He was so helpful.
- The view is utterly beautiful.
- We came incredibly close to falling off the stairs.
- These drawings are particularly good.
Mitiganti
- These crystals are fairly bright.
- The view was pretty good, but not breathtaking.
- I’m rather bored.
- It is slightly expensive, but I’m still going to buy it.
Use
I rafforzativi sono usati per rendere delle parole e delle espressioni piú forti.
I Mitiganti sono usati per rendere parole ed espressioni piú deboli.
Summary
I rafforzativi e i mitiganti sono due tipi di avverbi di quantitá. Usiamo gli avverbi rafforzativi per enfatizzare parole o espressioni, e gli avverbi mitiganti per rendere l’enfasi su queste parole non tanto forte.
I rafforzativi più comuni sono: highly, absolutely, so, incredibly, utterly, particularly…
I mitiganti più comuni sono: fairly, pretty, rather, slightly…
Per esempio:
— “I am absolutely sure he is lying.” = C’é un alta possibilitá che stia mentendo, quindi usiamo un rafforzativo.
— “I am fairly sure that he is lying.” = C’é una scarsa possibilitá che stia mentendo, quindi usiamo un mitigante.
