Preguntas de Sí o No

Introduction
Las preguntas de sí o no [yes or no questions] también se llaman preguntas cerradas [closed questions] o preguntas polares [polar questions] porque la respuesta solo puede ser sí [yes] o no [no]. Las respuestas a las preguntas cerradas se llaman repuestas cortas [short answers].
Usamos las preguntas cerradas en el pasado para preguntar información en el pasado.

- Did she go by car? – No, she didn’t.
- Were you at the bus station yesterday? – Yes, we were.
- Have they closed the garage door? – No, they haven’t
Use
Summary
Las preguntas de sí o no [yes or no] solo pueden tener sí o no como respuesta.
La estructura de una pregunta de sí o no es:
Auxiliary/modal verb + subject + noun/verb + …?
La estructura de respuestas cortas [short answers] es:
Yes/no + , + subject + auxiliary/modal verb (the same as the question).
Por ejemplo:
— «Did you go to school yesterday? – Yes, I did.» = Las preguntas de sí o no se llaman también preguntas cerradas [closed questions] y, ya que la pregunta ha sido formulada con el verbo auxiliar to do, la respuesta corta lo contendrá.
♦ «Whose cat is this?» = Wh- questions se llaman también preguntas abiertas porque puedes dar un número infinito de respuestas.
NOTA: Solo podemos usar un verbo auxiliar (be/have…) o un verbo modal (can/could /would…) para crear una pregunta de sí o no.
