Introduction
Present simple adalah tenses yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan situasi permanen atau peristiwa yang terjadi secara rutin atau sering.
Ketika disampaikan dalam bentuk negatif, kata kerja tersebut membantah sesuatu tentang subjek dimaksud.
Form
Present simple, dalam bentuk negatif, memiliki struktur sebagai berikut:
Subject + do/does + not + verb + …
- Do/does: Untuk orang ketiga tunggal, do diubah menjadi does;
- Kata Kerja [verb]: bentuk dasar kata kerja tetap sama (tanpa ada perubahan);
- Kata kerja tidak beraturan [irregular] to be: I am not – you aren’t – he isn’t…

- Masa depan yang sudah direncanakan
- I don’t start my new job on the 17th of June.
- The exam period doesn’t end on the 24th of December.
- Their daughter doesn’t arrive in a few days.
- Jadwal/Daftar waktu
- The train doesn’t leave at 7 o’ clock.
- The match doesn’t start at 9 o’clock tomorrow.
- My exams don’t start at 10 o’clock tomorrow.
- Kebiasaan/Rutinitas
- I don’t usually wake up at 8 o’clock.
- He doesn’t go to the gym twice a week.
- We don’t go to good restaurants for lunch.
- Fakta
- The sun doesn’t rise in the West.
- Water doesn’t boil at 80°C.
- Unicorns don’t exist.
- Situasi permanen
- I don’t live in Brussels.
- She doesn’t work in a supermarket.
- They don’t play football.
- Janji-janji…
- I don’t promise to buy you a new phone.
- He doesn’t swear he’ll go to the doctor.
- I don’t promise I’ll give you my phone number.
- Memberikan petunjuk arah dan perintah
- You don’t go straight but you turn left.
- You don’t restart your mobile phone.
- You don’t go upstairs.
- Tindakan yang sudah terjadi pada saat dibicarakan
- The brigades don’t disappear.
- The police don’t catch the thief.
- Real Madrid doesn’t recover from two goals down.
- Naratif informal
- The Beast doesn’t transform into a prince.
- Snow White doesn’t fall asleep.
- Little Red Riding-Hood doesn’t meet the wolf.
Use
Present simple, dalam bentuk negatif, digunakan untuk membantah sesuatu tentang:
- Masa depan yang sudah direncanakan (persitiwa yang direncanakan dengan keterangan waktu yang pasti);
- Jadwal/Daftar waktu (peristiwa yang direncanakan dengan waktu yang pasti);
- Kebiasaan/rutinitas (sesuatu yang terjadi berulang kali pada saat ini);
- Fakta-fakta (kebenaran umum yang diakui);
- Situasi permanen (yang telah terjadi sebelumnya dan akan terjadi di waktu yang akan datang);
- Janji-janji;
- Instruksi (perintah);
- Tindakan yang sudah terjadi pada saat dibicarakan (komentar);
- Naratif informal (ketika menceritakan sesuatu).
Summary
Kita menggunakan present simple, dalam bentuk negatif, untuk membantah situasi yang terjadi berulang kali secara rutin atau sering.
Struktur penggunaan:
Subject + do/does + not + verb + … (does digunakan untuk orang ketiga tunggal)
Contoh:
— “I don’t work on important projects.” =
— “She doesn’t work on important projects.” =
CATATAN: To be adalah kata kerja tidak beraturan, sehingga tidak mengikuti aturan yang sama untuk bentuk negatif, dan kita hanya perlu menambahkan not setelah kata kerja tersebut.
