Introduction

Subject + do/does + not + verb + …

  • Do/does: la terza persona singolare cambia da do a does;
  • Verbo: la forma base del verbo è la stessa (senza variazioni);
  • Verbo irregolare to be: I am not – you aren’t – he isn’t…
Subject do/does + not Verb Short form
I do not work don’t
You do not work don’t
He does not work doesn’t
She does not work doesn’t
It does not work doesn’t

Use

  1. Un futuro programmato (eventi programmati in una data precisa);
  2. Orari (eventi organizzati con un orario specifico);
  3. Abitudini/routine (qualcosa che accade ripetutamente nel presente);
  4. Fatti (cose che sono generalmente vere, dichiarate);
  5. Situazioni permanenti (che si verificano da tempo e si verificheranno nel futuro);
  6. Promesse;
  7. Istruzioni (ordini);
  8. Azioni completate che accadono mentre parliamo (commenti);
  9. Narrativa informale (quando si racconta una storia).

Summary

Subject + do/does + not + verb + … (does per la terza persona singolare)

Per esempio:
— “I don’t work on important projects.” =
— “She doesn’t work on important projects.” =

NOTE: Il verbo to be è irregolare, quindi non segue la regola generale per la formazione della forma negativa, ma aggiungiamo solo not dopo il verbo.
