Introduction
{Sehe Adverbs – Frequency, A1 level}
EXTRA: Adverbs = Adverbien; Adverbs of Frequency = Adverbien der Frequenz.
Form
- Indefinite frequency: now and then, seldom, occasionally, frequently, regularly, constantly…
- Definite frequency: daily, weekly, monthly, periodically, yearly…
Example
Adverbs of indefinite frequency
- They constantly wear a cap.
- I frequently have headaches.
- Now and then we wash.
- He has a flat in London now, but he still comes home occasionally.
- She exercises regularly.
- I seldom go to the beach.
Adverbs of definite frequency
- You go running daily.
- We do physical exercise monthly.
- He periodically complains about his inner ear.
- Martin has weekly visits from his mother.
- I pay for the ambulance service yearly.
Use
Adverbien sind in der Regel nach den Hilfsverben „to be“ oder „to have“ (“I’m rarely at home”) und vor anderen Verben (I rarely go to the dentist) positioniert:
- Never (not at any time);
- Rarely (not often);
- Now and then (from time to time);
- Seldom (on only a few occasions);
- Sometimes (on some occasions but not always or often);
- Occasionally (sometimes but not often);
- Often (many times);
- Usually (at most times);
- Frequently (often);
- Regularly (often);
- Constantly (all the time or often);
- Always (at all times).
Summary

Die wichtigsten Adverbs of Frequency sind: Never, rarely, now and then, seldom, sometimes, occasionally, often, usually, frequently, regularly, constantly und always.
Zum Beispiel:

NOTE: Adverbien werden normalerweise nach Hilfsverben positioniert (to be/to have) und vor anderen Verben positioniert.
