Introduction

EXTRA: Prepositions = Präpositionen; Prepositions of Movement = Bewegungpräpositionen.

Form

  • Bewegung zu oder von einem Ort: to, from, down, up, away from
  • Position ändern: in/into, on/onto, out of, off, over, under

Example

  • The baby pig fell down the stairs.

  • I’m going up to the second floor to see the sky.

  • Your dog is out of your apartment right now.

    • Away from (distancing oneself from a place).
  2. Bewegung von einer Seite zur anderen
    • Across (passing through a path, street, etc. to reach a destination);
    • Along (walking by the side of an extended place to reach a destination).
  3. Position ändern
    • In/Into (entering a 3-dimensional place);
    • On/Onto (positioning on the top of a 3-dimensional place having contact with the place);
    • Out of (leaving a 3-dimensional place);
    • Off (changing a position by leaving the previous place);
    • Over (positioning on the top of a 3-dimensional place without having contact with the place);
    • Under (positioning below a 3-dimensional place).

Summary

  • Bewegung zu oder von einem Ort: to, from, down, up, away from
  • Position ändern: in/into, on/onto, out of, off, over, under

Zum Beispiel:
— „I go to Ibiza every summer.“ = Wir verwenden to, weil wir über eine Positionsänderung sprechen, um ein bestimmtes Ziel zu erreichen.
— „My grandfather walks in/into the living room.“ = Wir verwenden in/into, weil wir über einen Wechsel der Position sprechen, um einen dreidimensionalen Ort zu betreten.
— „Get your feet off the table!

Let’s revise this content within the [Form] section. Take a look at the [Example] section that shows its use within a context.
