Introduction
One et ones sont des mots utilisés pour éviter les répétitions.
Form
Quand on utilise one ou ones, on applique les règles suivantes :
- One : pour remplacer les noms dénombrables singuliers ;
- Ones : pour remplacer les noms dénombrables pluriels.
On ne peut pas les utiliser pour remplacer les noms indénombrables.
Example
One
- I would like a waffle. Just a small one with some cream and berries.
- This novel is more important in literature than that one.
- They have a new camera, it’s the dark coloured one I saw in the newspaper.
Ones
- I really like these drawings, the ones which Peter drew.
- He needs new photos of her. The ones that I took are too bright.
- They saw new paintings of Joanna, the ones which are at the exhibition.
Use
On utilise one et ones pour éviter de répéter un mot ou un groupe nominal composé d’un nom dénombrable singulier ou pluriel.
Summary
On utilise one et ones pour éviter les répétitions.
- One s’emploie à la place d’un nom dénombrable singulier.
- Ones s’emploie à la place d’un nom dénombrable pluriel.
Par exemple :
— « There is a phone on the table. The black one is mine. » = Phone est un nom dénombrable singulier.
— « There are 3 phones on the table. The black ones are mine. » = Phones est un nom dénombrable pluriel.
