Introduction
Les prépositions [prepositions] sont des petits mots qui lient les éléments d’une même phrase entre eux. Elles sont essentielles car elles donnent des informations supplémentaires sur ces éléments.
On utilise les prépositions de lieu [preposition of place] pour situer un événement dans l’espace. {Voir les prépositions communes, niveau A1 ; les prépositions de lieu, niveau A2}
Form
Les prépositions de lieu les plus courantes sont : above, below, over, under, next to, near, behind, between, in front of, opposite…
Example
- She hung a picture above the fireplace.
- Two people are standing behind George.
- The pilot is standing between those two air hostesses.
- The coat is next to the backpack.
- The bakery is opposite my father’s restaurant.
- They hung a clock over the sofa.
- The mountain boots are under the bed.
Use
On utilise les prépositions de lieu pour exprimer l’emplacement des choses.
Summary
