Introduction
Das Past Simple ist die angespannte Sprache, um über Situationen, Ereignisse und Aktionen zu sprechen, die in der Vergangenheit passiert sind.
When expressed in its Negative form, the verb denies something about the subject.
Form
The Past Simple of both regular and irregular* verbs in their Negative form has this structure:
Subject + did + not + verb + … („did“ is the past form of the verb “do”).
Subject | did + not | Verb | Short Form |
---|---|---|---|
I | did not | work | didn’t |
You | did not | work | didn’t |
He | did not | work | didn’t |
She | did not | work | didn’t |
It | did not | work | didn’t |
We | did not | work | didn’t |
You | did not | work | didn’t |
They | did not | work | didn’t |
*Questions and negatives of irregular verbs have the same structure of regular verbs.
Example
- I didn’t plant some trees yesterday.
- I didn’t study about plants for the exams.
- The school didn’t decide that all students should do exercise.
- They didn’t travel all over the place.
Use
Wir verwenden das Past Simple für:
- Handlungen, Situationen und Ereignisse, die in der Vergangenheit aufgetreten und beendet wurden;
- Wiederholte Ereignisse und Gewohnheiten, die in der Vergangenheit stattfanden;
- Vergangenheit Ereignisse und wir verwenden Zeit Ausdrücke wie: vor zwei Wochen, letztes Jahr, im Jahr 2010, gestern, etc.
Summary
Wir verwenden da Past Simple, wenn wir über Situationen sprechen wollen, die in der Vergangenheit aufgetreten sind und nun abgeschlossen sind. Wenn er in seiner Negative form verwendet wird, wird etwas über den Subjekt verweigert.
Das Past Simple in der Negativen Form hat diese Bildung:
Subject + did + not + verb + …
Zum Beispiel:
— “They didn’t work on an important project yesterday.” = Wir verwenden das Past Simple in ihrer negativen Form, um über ein vergangenes Ereignis zu sprechen, das nicht auftritt.
