Introduction
Los comparativos [comparatives] se usan para comparar dos cosas, personas o acciones mientras que los superlativos [superlatives] expresan la superioridad de una cosa, persona o acción.
Hay algunos adjetivos y adverbios con comparativos y superlativos irregulares.
Form
Los comparativos y superlativos irregulares no siguen la norma general de formación, tenemos que aprenderlos de memoria. Los adjetivos [adjectives] y adverbios [adverbs] comparativos y superlativos irregulares más comunes son:
ADJETIVES | ADEVERBS | COMPARATIVE | SUPERLATIVE |
---|---|---|---|
bad (adj.) | badly (adv.) | worse | the worst |
little | little | less | the least |
much | much | more | the most |
good (adj.) | well (adv.) | better | the best |
far | far | farther/further | the farthest/furthest |
Example
Comparativo
- Susan is a better assistant than her sister.
- You have to go further to get to the lawyer’s office.
- Peter is going to talk to him later about the house.
Superlativo
- John is the best assistant in the office.
- This is the furthest point I’ve ever reached in the agency!
- They come the latest to the garage.
Use
Usamos los comparativos y superlativos irregulares de la misma manera que los regulares.
Summary
Con los adjectivos/adverbios [adjectives/adverbs] irregulares, no se pueden crear las formas comparativas [comparative] y superlativas [superlative] de la misma manera que los regulares y tienes que aprenderlos de memoria.
Los más comunes son:
- Bad (adj.) – badly (adv.) ⇒ worse (comp.) – the worst (super.);
- Good (adj.) – well (adv.) ⇒ better (comp.) – the best (super.).
Por ejemplo:
— Comparativo: “You can write a good CV.” ⇒ “You can write a better CV.” / “You can write a gooder CV.“
— Superlativo: “You can write a good CV.” ⇒ “You can write the best CV.” / “You can write the goodest CV.“
Vamos a revisar el contenido de la sección {Form}. Echa un vistazo a la sección {Example} que muestra su uso en el contexto de una oración.
