Introduction
Superlative Adjectives- це визначники, які вживаються для порівняння речей, людей або дій, виражаючи перевагу однієї речі, людини або дії, які мають високий рівень певної особливості.
EXTRA: Superlative Adjectives = Найвищий ступінь прикметника.
Form
Форма найвищого ступеня прикметника виражається по-різному в залежності до кількості складів і суфікса. Ми вживаємо артикль the перед прикметником.
Структура форми найвищого ступеня така:
Subject + verb + the + superlative adjective/adverb + object + …
One syllable
Як правило, до односкладових прикметників лише додається -est
У односкладових прикметників закінчення на одну голосну і одну приголосну, кінцева приголосна подвоюється перед додаванням -est. (ex. big -> biggest)
Із односкладовим прикметником закінчення на -e лише додається-st.
The + adj + -est.

Two syllables ending in -y
Суфікс –y: змінюється -y на –i та додається –est.

Two syllables ending in -y
Додається The most перед прикметником:The most + adjective (без змін).
| beautiful | the most beautiful |
| boring | the most boring |
| difficult | the most difficult |
| popular | the most popular |
| modern | the most modern |
Ми не можемо змінювати прикметники з the most. […the most + adjective (без змін)…]
Example
One syllable
- I have the cleanest room in the house.
- She has the oldest shop along the street.
- They tried their hardest to buy an apartment.
Two syllables (with -y)
- You are the funniest woman alive.
- She is the friendliest girl I’ve ever met.
- We wake up the earliest to take shower.
Two syllables (without -y) or more syllables
- I think that tennis is the most boring sport.
- ‘War and Peace’ is the most difficult Russian book to read.
- Far east countries’ languages are the most popular to learn.

Вживаються Superlative Adjectives, коли ми хочемо порівняти речі, людей або дії, виражаючи перевагу певної речі, людини або дій, які мають високий рівень певної особливості.
Утворення найвищого ступеня прикметника різниться в залежності від кількості складів і суфікса.
Наприклад:
— Односкладові прикметники: “Claire is the oldest girl in the class.” = Тому що слово old має один склад, лише додається-est (Коли прикметник закінчується на -e лише додається –st).
— Двоскладові прикметники які закінчуються на -y: “Claire is the prettiest girl in the class.” = Тому що слово pretty має два склади і закінчується на -y, -y стає -i та потрібно додати -est.
— Два або більше складів, які не закінчуються на -y: “Claire is the most sympathetic girl in the class.” = Тому що слово sympathetic має більше ніж один склад, потрібно додати most перед прикметником. Прикметник не змінюється при вживанні most.
