Introduction
To be used to est une expression utilisée pour exprimer une habitude ou une coutume qui nous est familière.
À la forme affirmative, l’expression confirme l’habitude du sujet.
Form
Voici la structure de to be used to à la forme affirmative :
Sujet + to be + used to + [verbe + -ing]/pronom/groupe nominal + …

Les formes contractées affirmatives sont les mêmes que celles du verbe to be : I’m, you’re, he’s…
Example
- They‘re used to working in a big, modern city.
- I have had long hair since I was a child so I‘m used to it now.
- He is used to the noise of the shower.
Use
À la forme affirmative, l’expression to be used to confirme qu’une personne est familière d’une pratique ou habituée à une activité, une action.
Summary
La forme affirmative de to be used to confirme les habitudes et coutumes auxquelles le sujet est habitué.
Quand on utilise to be used to à la forme affirmative, on commence avec le sujet, suivi de l’expression to be used to conjuguée {Voir to be, niveau A1}, puis du verbe en -ing, d’un pronom ou d’un groupe nominal.
Par exemple :
— « You are used to having breakfast early in the morning. » = Petit déjeuner tôt (early) est l’habitude du sujet.
NOTE : Ne pas confondre avec to use to qui n’est utilisé que dans les phrases au passé.
Par exemple :
— « You are used to having breakfast early in the morning. » = On utilise to be used to pour montrer que le sujet est habitué à cette action.
♦ « You used to have breakfast early in the morning. » = On utilise to use to pour parler d’une habitude passée qui n’est plus d’actualité.
