Introduction
Les adverbes [adverbs] servent à modifier la phrase, la proposition ou plusieurs éléments de la proposition. Ils fournissent un large éventail d’informations.
Les adverbes de lieu [adverbs of place] indique l’endroit où se passe une action.
Form
Les adverbes de lieu ne modifient pas un adjectif ou un autre adverbe. Dans la phrase, ils se placent après un objet ou un verbe.
Les plus couramment utilisés sont : here, there, downstairs, upstairs, inside, outside, indoors, outdoors, anywhere, abroad…
Example
- The non-alcoholic drinks are downstairs.
- A packet of flour was here yesterday.
- Stay indoors and don’t ask questions.
- I stay inside and have a warm meal when the weather is bad.
- Everybody is outside.
- He was there at the bar 2 minutes before.
- They are sitting upstairs.
Use
On emploie les adverbes de lieu pour savoir où se passe l’action de la phrase.

Les plus courants sont here, there, downstairs, upstairs, inside, outside, indoors, outdoors, anywhere, abroad…
Par exemple :
— « Are you looking for a vegetarian sandwich? It’s here. » = On utilise here pour exprimer la position de quelque chose (au moment où l’on parle).
