Introduction

Conjunctions -це слова які вживаються для сполучення іменників або речень. Вони зазвичай показують як значення двох речень пов’язані між собою.

Form

Conjunctions це слова які функціонують як сполучна ланка між клаузулами у реченнях.
Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Example

And

  • Kevin reads the newspaper and watches television every Friday.
  • They live in New York and love its beautiful library.

Because

  • Anna doesn’t want to take the exam because she did not study.
  • We can’t come to the party tonight because we must study.

But

  • I like maths lessons but I don’t really like history lessons.
  • You can go back to class but you must study.

When

  • I get very frustrated when the computer is slow.
  • We went to our maths lesson when the school bell rang.

Use

Складні речення у англійській мові мають 2 або більше клаузул. Речення має принаймні суб’єкт і дієслово.

Можна поєднувати два речення з такими самими сполучниками:

  1. And (сполучає два речення);
  2. But (твердить про стан або контраст);
  3. Because (твердить про причину);
  4. When (твердить про час речення).

Summary

Conjunctions є дуже важливою частиною мови так як вони поєднують клаузули в реченні.

Основними Conjunctions є: And, But, Because і When і їхня роль як сполучників відрізняється певним чином.

Clause 1 + conjunctions + clause 2

Наприклад:
— “I need to go to the supermarket and I also want to visit my grandmother.” = Сполучник and вживається для сполучення двох речень.
— “I need to go to the supermarket but I have to work.” = Сполучник but вживається тому що замість ” going to the supermarket I have to work”.
— “I need to go to the supermarket because we have no bread.” = Сполучник because вживається для поєднання двох частин речення: дія і причина дії.
— “I need to go to the supermarket when I finish work.” = Сполучник when вживається тому що “I will go to the supermarket once I have finished work”.

NOTE: речення має принаймні суб’єкт і дієслово.
