Introduction
To be used to est une expression utilisée pour exprimer une habitude ou une coutume qui nous est familière.
À la forme négative, l’expression nie que le sujet a une habitude.
Form
Voici la structure de to be used to à la forme négative :
Sujet + to be + not + used to + [verbe + ing]/pronom/groupe nominal + …

Les formes contractées négatives sont les mêmes que celles du verbe to be : I’m not, you’re not/you aren’t, he’s not/he isn’t…
Example
- They‘re not used to working in a big, modern city.
- I have not had long hair since I was a child so I‘m not used to it now.
- He is not used to the noise of the shower.
Use
À la forme négative, l’expression to be used to nie qu’une personne est familière d’une pratique ou habituée à une activité, une action.
Summary
La forme négative de to be used to nie que le sujet ait des habitudes ou coutumes.
Quand on utilise to be used to à la forme négative, on commence avec le sujet, suivi de l’expression to be not used to conjuguée {Voir to be, niveau A1}, puis du verbe en -ing, d’un pronom ou d’un groupe nominal.
Par exemple :
— « You are not used to having breakfast early in the morning. » = Petit déjeuner tôt (early) n’est pas une habitude du sujet.
NOTE : Ne pas confondre avec to use to qui n’est utilisé que dans les phrases au passé.
Par exemple :
— « You aren’t used to having breakfast early in the morning. » = On utilise to be used to pour parler d’une action à laquelle le sujet n’est pas habitué dans le présent.
♦ « You didn’t use to have breakfast early in the morning. » = On utilise to use to pour parler d’une action qui n’était pas habituelle pour le sujet mais l’est devenue.
